GIRL POWER
Girls U12 Rugby team win again!
The Girls U12 rugby team played Lurgan Girls U12 team on Sunday 7 th January. The match
was well contested with the Civil Service Girls coming out on top with a 13 tries to 8 tries
victory. Some determined hard running, accurate passing and excellent support play
resulted in tries for Isla Mckillen (4), Charlotte Dempster (4), Charlotte Stewart (2), Isla
Nicholson (1), Rebecca Quinn (1) and Tolu Olade (1).
So far this season the girls have only been beaten by one team, Ballymoney, where they lost
narrowly to a very well organised and physically strong team, and have won 6 matches. This
is the first season Civil Service Rugby Club have had a dedicated girls team and so far it has
proved to be a huge success with 13 girls regularly training on Monday and Friday evenings
from 6.30-8.00 p.m. Any girls in P7 or Y8 who are interested in playing rugby are more than
welcome to turn up to one of these training nights. They will get a very warm welcome.
The squad is made up of girls from both primary and secondary schools in East Belfast and
they were introduced to the sport through the club’s Youth Rugby Development Outreach
Programme. The full squad of players is as follows: Isla Mckillen, Charlotte Dempster,
Charlotte Stewart, Isla Nicholson, Rebecca Quinn, Tolu Olade, Anna Osbourne, Mia
Blackburn, Gabriella Dunlop, Martha Hertherington, Evie Smith, Sophie MIchrinova, Sariah
Pelu.
We are all very proud of the girls for their dedication and hard work throughout the season
so far and we wish them continued success for the rest of the season.
