GIRLS U12 WIN LURGAN TOURNAMENT
Civil Service U12 girls, supported by girls from Larne RFC and Clougher Valley, won the Lurgan RFC Girls U12 Blitz on Sunday 16th April. The girls were undefeated during the tournament, winning the first trophy for the re-instated Youth Section at Civil Service (NI) Rugby Club
Civil Service (7) Vs Ballymena (0)
Civil Service started strong against Ballymena with the girls not allowing Ballymena out of their half for the whole match. Charlotte D and Eva making strong tackles forcing Ballymena into mistakes that Civil Service then capitalised on. The Girls ball handling skills then took over allowing them to run in a number of scores into the corners with Elsie’s score being the highlight moment of the match with a dive into the corner whilst being tackled and still being able to ground the ball before going into touch. A fantastic opening match with the Girls displaying some fantastic rugby skills and rugby values
Ballymoney (1) Vs Civil Service (4)
Second up for Civil Service was Ballymoney, a very tough opponent that has seen past matches being very close with Ballymoney often coming out on top. The Girls knew this and showed grit and determination throughout this game. Again strong tackling and rucking from all the girls made sure they kept Ballymoney from crossing the try line more than once. The girls ran hard and straight with a standout run from Charlotte S, running from her own try line the length of the pitch only to be stopped just short of the line, as annoyed as Charlotte was at not scoring she did set up a Civil Service score from her strong run. A harder fought match where the girls played and gelled as a team making sure they were clear winners in the end.
Civil Service (9) Vs Lurgan/Armagh combined (1)
The girls final match against Lurgan/Armagh combined and our girls were buoyed by their
previous 2 wins and determined to go undefeated on the day, they lined themselves up in very strong attacking and defending lines. Lurgan came out fighting but our girls were just too good on the day running in 9 tries to 1 and only allowing Lurgan/Armagh into their half once which Lurgan/Armagh scored from.
The Girls played exceptionally well and we as coaches have seen their skill levels develop and have watched them throughout the season turn into not just fantastic rugby players but fantastic team mates with each other. They all display the Values of Rugby in everything they do at the club and this is really highlighted by how they welcome players from other clubs into their team and include them as if they had always been there. They are rubbing off onto our U10 Girls and encouraging them which is again making our job as coaches so much easier. The U10 Girls team had their first
ever contact matches during the tournament and did exceptionally well in all three of their
matches, boding well for the future of the Girls section at the club. Well done Girls and here is to more Silverware and Trophies
